Welcome to my site!

I’m happy you stumbled upon my little piece of virtual real estate. I love kids… I always have. After years as a Special Education Math and Science Teacher I’ve just embarked on a new journey. I’m still a public school teacher but I’ve recently joined the GATE (Gifted & Talented Education) department.

I’m excited and even a little nervous for this new challenge. Even though the content will become more rigorous, the underlying principles that I’ve always taught will remain. Ideas like character development, growth mindset, grit, resilience and STEM concepts will always find a way into my curriculum.

I believe every teacher’s primary job is to do our part to raise our students to become virtuous young adults. My academic expectations are high but I love finding new, fun and engaging ways to meet them.

Do the kids in your life give up too soon when math gets tough? Do they easily meltdown? Perhaps they are stuck in certain ways of negative thinking when it comes to math? I have something I believe will help. Swing by our gritisms.com website and have a look.

What They’re Saying

In today’s world of rising expectations in mathematical knowledge in the elementary years, it is more important than ever that students in the younger elementary years are exposed to activities that promote number sense. Gritisms cover this need with a wide variety of activity mats and standard playing cards that can easily be made into math centers. Best of all, each of these Gritism activity mats are aligned with the grade-appropriate math standards.

Bryan Moore, Elementary School Teacher

My kids adored Mr. Harber because he interacted with them and other students on such a friendly level. I could always tell his love for teaching with how well the students responded. When he was on duty students always surrounded him. He seems to be very popular on campus.

Connie Brough, Parent

Mr. Harber is an exceptional teacher. He has worked with students from gifted learners to students with special needs and is able to differentiate instruction to have the students achieve their academic goals. The lessons and materials that he creates are engaging, accessible, and effective for all students. I highly recommend them!

Tracy Beattie, Special Education Instructional Facilitator
